Background

Alex Hainen is an associate professor in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at The University of Alabama. He is a Christian and has been blessed by God with many transportation research projects. He has been PI or co-PI on more than $30 million of research supported by FHWA, USDOT, USDOE, NSF, the US Army ERDC, and several state DOTs. His research interests include traffic signals, connected vehicles, transportation operations, travel mobility, and airport engineering. He has worked with nearly 20 departments of transportation, including Michigan, Indiana, Utah, and Alabama. He has also conducted airport research with George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG).

He has 40 peer reviewed journal articles and 40 additional conference proceedings. Alex is a member of the Institute for Transportation Engineers, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and is a friend of the Transportation Research Board Utilities committee and Traffic Signal Systems committee.
